" Situation in Floods, and Around the Krishna River - Overview "

1. Flood Indicators and NA Regions Affected :

Belagavi District, Karnataka: A complete fury of flooding has been released by the Krishna River and its tributaries like Ghataprabha and Malaprabha. Temple, bridges, villages and even farmlands have been submerged. More than 200 households have moved to relief camps.

•  Vijayapura and Bagalkot District : 

Flood-like conditions are being endured because of high rainfalls continuing to fall. Relief centres have been made operational and people being settled. Being through the Almati Dam, it is letting out around 250,000 cusecs in an attempt to cope with gathering waters.

•  Belagavi District :

The district is on high alert and eight taluks have been affected. The government has laid down 550 care centres. Sadly, two deaths were revealed that were caused by falling walls. Approximately, 300 villages are flood-prone; crops are damaged, and several bridges have been flooded.

•  Andhra Pradesh (Vijayawada) : 

Excess water in the floodgates of the Prakasam Barrage overwhelmed itself too much to the extent of completely closing down or shuttering the boating facilities by the Bhavani Island. Tourist attraction has been severely hit as it has been calculated that 50 lakhs were lost as a result of the same.

2. Government Response :

•  Evacuations Relief Centres: All across Karnataka, the authorities are evactuating people in high-risk zones and setting relief camps to keep them.

•  Flood Control: Dam releases to reduce the flood level are being made to release large quantities of water through major dams like Almatti, Hipparagi, Hidkal, and Renukasagar.

3. Warnings & Preparedness : 

Severe flood warnings are going on. Response teams (SDRF and NDRF) of disaster are deployed at the regional level. Schools in highly hit regions have been closed down to provide security.

5. Human and Structural Toll :

* Eviction : More than 200 families are already displaced in Belagavi. Care centres are taking care of the affected villagers with food, shelter and the essentials.

* Losses : In Belagavi, agriculture is seriously affected in hundreds of villages and bridges connecting them have been submerged. It is a great pity that two lives were lost owing to collapses of structures.

* Economic Stress : The tourism industry in Vijayawada suffered a setback as its daily losses at Bhavani Island amounted to 3-4 lakh, which totalled around 50 lakh.

6. Treatment and Flood Management :

State and county governments are getting all they can together.

•  Evacuations: Government has established shelters and moved the citizens out of the flood-prone areas.

•  Dam Control: Release of water in strategic dams such as Almatti in an attempt to control the flow of water in the river and curb possible disastrous bursting of dam.

•  Emergency Response: Warning of floods continues aerial; disaster response personnel are deployed at strategic locations; schools are locked and restricted to children.

Summary :

The current condition of the Krishna River is the humbling testimony to the element of the monsoon and the fragility of human settlement in front of the laws of nature. In Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, priority will be on killing the killing, controlling losses, and returning to some regularity. As water is relentlessly pushing on its regular course, both authority and citizens of the country in general are challenged to be alert, attentive, and able to be strong in case there is necessity.
