Why Rajesh Assaulted Delhi CM Rekha Gupta ?

On August 20, 2025, a man named Rajesh Khimji Bhai Sakriya, of Rajkot, Gujarat brutally assaulted Chief Minister of Delhi Rekha Gupta at a public event of grievance or Jan Sunwai. This is what we do know of his motifs and antecedents:

1. The immediate background of the attack :

Sakriya had come to Delhi though Rajkot. He then came and touched Chief Minister in the event holding some papers, which is believed to be on behalf of a relative in Tihar Jail. Following a brief interaction, he abruptly seized her hand and pulled her hair as well as slapping her as the security locked him down.

2. A Dog-Lover who Pained by a Decree : 

His mother said that Sakriya was loggerheads over an issue of Supreme Court decision that was passed recently to have stray dogs within Delhi-NCR put in round ups, and to be shifted to shelters. His passion to animals made him accept the judgment as personal. It is this suffering, she says, which made him leave and go to Delhi where he vented his frustrations in an upsetting manner.

3. Psychological Issues :

His mother also added that Sakriya was mentally ill and had not been taking his medication. She claimed that his mental condition went unstable, and he was capable of striking anybody.

4. None Political Clubs :

He denied political participation by his mother strongly. She stressed that his acts were personal and emotional not political: it was his sensitivity to the stray dog problem that motivated his actions.

5. Security oversight and Public Account :

Political leaders and eye-witnesses have blamed the lapse in security that allowed Sakriya to get so near to the CM. A number of them termed the incident as a major culpability of neglecting safety in a crowd meeting. There are still investigations conducted whether there was a political motivation, but nothing concrete can be found yet.

Final Thoughts :

Essentially put, it is because Rajesh Sakriya was very upset with the Supreme Court ruling on stray dogs and the instability brought on by his mental condition that led to the attack on CM Rekha Gupta. His mother has informed people that the act was not politically rhetorical but personal demonstration of mourning and distress.
